After the exhilaration of birth, I was a little bit bummed to find I was one of those women who get super-sore nipples from breastfeeding. Despite being scrupulous about a good latch, I was just really tender. I persevered, and was so relieved to get past the 'ouch' stage to being able to really enjoy being breastfeeding buddies with my babies.
There's nothing like an experience like this to get you thinking about ways to make it easier - necessity is the mother of invention. I did lots of things to soothe my raw, tender nipples. Going topless whenever possible was good. Stuffing my breasts into tight bras did NOT help. Calendula or Lansinoh cream helped. Rubbing a little breast milk into the nipples helped.
And also, the herbal liquid made from the Sore Nipple Bliss herbs. I used to stand over the sink and let the herbal liquid from my peri-bottle flow gently over the nipples.
So, I have formulated this mild blend of soothing herbs for you to use in a soft-side plastic cleansing bottle, which emits a very gentle stream from the spout. There are less astringent and more moisturizing herbs in this mild blend, to avoid a drying effect on the tender tissues.
How To Use:
Place the herbal sachet in a glass jug and add hot (but not boiling) water. Cover and steep for about 20 minutes.
Then pour the liquid into your cleansing bottle.
After feeding, stand over a sink and let the warm liquid flow gently over your nipples.
Allow to air-dry, go topless for a while. Then apply a thick layer of your chosen nipple care cream (such as our Blissful Herbs Soothing Salve) or use breast milk - which contains wonderful healing properties.
If like me, you have a condition called nipple vaso-constriction contributing to nipple pain, you'll find that warmth really helps - like sunning your nipples in gentle sunlight, standing in a warm shower, or making a warm compress with the herbal liquid and some soft cloth to apply to your nipples.
